“Allison’s banjo playing is characterized by the ability to seamlessly navigate between delicate melodic lines and powerful driving rhythm all with an emotional depth.” -Alison Brown

HI! I’m a clawhammer banjo player from Winnipeg, Canada. I first heard banjo on a recording as a teenager and instantly knew I wanted to learn how to play. I love the tone, rhythmic intensity and how it physically feels to play the banjo when you’re really in it. I’m currently performing with Tatiana Hargreaves, Nic Gareiss and as part of the house band for The Transatlantic Sessions. I love collaboration and gravitate towards musicians like Tatiana and Nic where it feels supported and grounded, and there is a big element of spontaneity and playfulness so you don’t always know where things are going to end up.

I was recently awarded the Steve Martin Banjo Prize for Excellence in Banjo, was nominated for ‘Instrumentalist of the Year’ at the Americana Music Association awards, and my duo with Tatiana was recognized by the Canadian Folk Music Awards and the JUNOS for our album “Hurricane Clarice”. As well as performing, I also teach at traditional music camps and through an online course hosted by ArtistWorks.
